He studied medicine at Queens College, Dundee and graduated in 1963, awarded the title of 'Student of the Year' in his graduation year. During a long career, Dr McKellican was employed in General Medical Practice,which included teaching and GP Consultant for the Centre for Medical Education, University of Dundee. McKellican retired from practice in 2002
