The Canelluñ plays

This series contains ms and ts scripts and draft scripts of the annual plays performed at Graves's home, Canelluñ, in honour of Graves's birthday on 24 July. The plays involved members of the Graves family, friends, and visitors to Deyá, and were generally comic parodies of life in Deyá and Graves's current work interests. From his diary entries (RG/I) it appears that Graves wrote the earlier scripts, but it is possible that later scripts were more collaborative pieces. It can be difficult to distinguish between draft and final version of the play scripts, and many of the scripts appear to be working versions used by the performers and marked up accordingly. Consequently only versions which clearly present as early drafts are described as such.

The series is arranged in approximate chronological order, with dates for the scripts being constructed where possible from William Graves's notes, Graves's diary entries and Richard Perceval Graves 'Robert Graves and the White Goddess, 1940-1985' (London: Weidenfeld & Nicolson, 1995).
