Scope and Content

'Extract from a letter of Capt. T. J. Newbold, dated Alexandria, 10 January 1847' in which he writes of inscriptions recently found in the excavations. He transcribes the inscriptions and gives a description of the temple in which they were found.

Thomas J. Newbold was an English soldier in the service of the East India Company. However he also was interested in exploration and archaeology. The discoveries described in the extract were found while in Egypt for two years from 1845-1847.
