Administrative / Biographical History

In 1974 Neath Borough was joined with Neath Rural District Council (excluding the parish of Rhigos) to form the new district called Neath Borough Council. The Borough and the Rural District had been co-operating on a wide variety of issues long before 1974. In 1996, district and county councils were abolished and replaced by unitary authorities. Neath Borough, Port Talbot Borough and the eastern part of Lliw Valley Borough became the County Borough of Neath Port Talbot.
