Administrative / Biographical History

Neath Borough Petty Sessions began with magistrates exercising jurisdiction over the area of the Borough of Neath. This expanded in 1922 with the addition of Briton Ferry parish and part of Llantwit Lower. In 1974 Neath Hundred and Neath Borough divisions were amalgamated to form a division coterminous with the newly created Neath Borough Council. Following local government reorganisation in 1996 the Neath and Port Talbot divisions were amalgamated to become Neath Port Talbot Magistrates, with courts sitting in Neath and in Port Talbot.
