Scope and Content

Letters to Miss Sarah Corlass of Hull, as follows:

  • (a) numbers 1-25, from John James Ruskin, father of John Ruskin, 1830-1863;
  • (b) numbers 26-31, from Joan Severn, 1871-1878;
  • (c) numbers 32-33, from George Allen, 1878;
  • (d) number 34, from Charles Augustus Howell, n.d.;
  • (e) numbers 35-36, notes of Ruskin's financial affairs taken from information in Fors Clavigera, 1876-7.
With this collection is an empty envelope addressed to Miss Corlass in the hand of Joan Severn, marked 14 December 1871, and marked in pencil Ruskin's last.

Purchased by the John Rylands Library at auction at Sotheby's on 10 December 1968 (Lot 198).
