Scope and Content

Paul Joyce collected original drawings for G.E. Street buildings. Nothing is known of how he acquired them. They are arranged in portfolios by building location.

Most of the drawings are signed George Edmund Street, with the practice address at the time such as 14 Cavendish Place and 51 Russell Square, London. The signature and labels are in several different hands, so are likely to be by office staff as well as G.E. Street himself. Includes one drawing signed A.E Street [PRJ/4/8/37].

Many of the drawings are original; some are prints, with the location of the original sources unknown. This is detailed in each catalogue record.

As well as drawings there are five original specifications documents in the portfolios, for All Saints, Boyne Hill, Berkshire [PRJ/4/1/10], St Mary, Hanley Castle, Worcestershire [PRJ/4/5/2], St Dionis Backchurch, London [PRJ/4/10/1], the Parsonage at Melksham, Wiltshire [PRJ/4/11/2], and St Anne, Whelford, Gloucestershire [PRJ/4/15/6]. There is also a signed estimate for St Mary, Hanley Castle [PRJ/4/5/3] and a survey, estimate and mortgage document for the Parsonage at Melksham [see PRJ/4/11].

The Royal Courts of Justice, Westminster, London portfolio contains large pages taken from the Illustrated London News and Pictorial World, 1872-1882.
