By order of Mrs. Violet Van der Elst, Grantham Castle, Lincolnshire, A catalogue of Antique and Modern Surplus Furnishing Contents of the Castle . Statuary and Bronzes, English and French giltwood furniture, two Grand Pianofortes, a fine suite of lacquered and decorated furniture, carpets and rugs, oil paintings, drawings, pastel portraits, choice satinwood and decorated furniture, a carved gilt bedstead from King Edward VII bedroom at Rufford Abbey, set of six Brussels tapestries and other effects, which Messrs. Place & Kirk will sell by Auction at the Castle, as above on Thursday & Friday, June 10th & 11th, 1948 commencing each day at Eleven o'clock prompt.

Administrative / Biographical History

After the second world war Mrs. Van der Elst lost interest in the Manor. She auctioned interior contents, and sold the house and 500 acres to The Society of Jesus (Jesuits) for use as a novice centre. This item is the sale catalogue for the contents auction which took place on 10-11th June 1948.
