Scope and Content

Catalogue of incunables in the Spencer Library that were not recorded in Thomas Frognall Dibdin's Bibliotheca Spenceriana: or, a descriptive catalogue of the books printed in the fifteenth century and of many valuable first editions in the library of George John Earl Spencer (London: printed for the author by W. Bulmer, 1814-15). This catalogue is entitled A Catalogue of some Books which are in the Althorp Library which were Printed in the Fifteenth Century, But are not Described in Dibdin's Bibliotheca Spenceriana. It records 207 works not listed by Dibdin, and contains brief details of the author, short title, printer, date and place of printing, size, accession number and shelf-mark of each work. Four small sheets containing additional lists are enclosed loose. The leaves of the volume consist of un-watermarked, lined paper of the late 19th century, and the catalogue may have been compiled in preparation for the sale of the Spencer Library in 1892.
