The image shows a group of people enjoying themselves on the beach in Victorian clothing. to the left can be seen an old beach hut, in which people changed into their bathing customes before being pushed down to the sea to ensure discreet modesty. In the background, upper centre, the old bath house, built in 1855 and demolished in 1900 to make way for the Grand Hotel , can be seen with the original pier built 1858 to the right of it.
