Administrative / Biographical History

Llansamlet parish was historically divided into Llansamlet Higher (the northern part) and Llansamlet Lower (the southern part). Swansea Borough absorbed a large part of the western half of Llansamlet parish in 1835, which became known as Llansamlet Urban. The remainder was Llansamlet Rural. In 1894 the Rural portions of Llansamlet Higher and Lower formed separate parish councils, but these were joined in 1905 under the name of Llansamlet parish council. The whole of Llansamlet became part of Swansea Borough in 1918.
