Scope and Content

Handwritten notes by Hewson, and a typed draft academic study on the industrial development of Dundee 1930-1939. 4 folders of notes relating to interviews, letters and a newspaper cutting, with people employed in local Dundee industry. Detailed numbers and figures are provided. Discusses population, employment figures, working conditions, industrial structures by year, breakdown percenatages of types of Dundee industry such as jute, shipbuilding, and factory/warehouse work., insured workers figures.

Administrative / Biographical History

Campbell Hewson was born on 23 May 1929. He and his wife moved to Dundee and took up residence in Monifieth in 1965. He was senior lecturer in the Education Department in the University. He started his research into Dundee with a view to taking a degree but in 1969 was offered a senior position with Kirkcaldy College of Technology, which he took which meant that he could not continue with his studies. He died after an accident in 2007.
