Papers concerning the selection of a site for the Welsh University offices in 1897, when Machynlleth put forward a case for their establishment in that town. A similar claim was made in 1912 for the location of the Welsh National Memorial Offices in Machynlleth, a battle ultimately lost to Newtown. Of some interest are the replies received from various towns to a circular letter sent out by Machynlleth UDC in an attempt to muster support for its case.
