This class contains material relating to the running of John Vickers' photographic studio. Included are Vickers' appointment books and the notebooks he used to catalogue his photographs, scrapbooks, flyers, leaflets and businesscards and the images relating to them and press cuttings relating to Vickers' studio and work. This class also contains examples of John Vickers' writings on photography (both published and drafts) as well as correspondence relating to various projects with which he had involvements, including his work for the National Historical Monuments Commission, analysing aerial photographs and contributing to scientific papers about the analysis and development of aerial photographs for archeological research and his work on a commission looking at the life of professional photographer and the potential for photographers to make their profession pay. There is also a file relating to the work of the John Vickers Photograph Archive, that is the business Vickers set up after his retirement dealing with the reproduction and copyright issues relating to the reproduction of his works in various publications. This work was continued after Vickers' death by his widow, Norma Campbell Vickers.
