ST. ASAPH POOR LAW UNION RECORDS

Records relating to St Asaph Union, 1837-1947, including Clerk's records, 1837-1930; Treasurer's records, 1922-1930; Workhouse Master records, 1840-1947; Relieving Officer's records, 1919-1930; Collector's records, 1900-1931; and non-Poor Law duties records, 1863-1934.

St Asaph Poor Law Union was formed in 1837 and an elected Board of Guardians oversaw its operation. St Asaph Union comprised the parishes of Abergele, Betws-yn-Rhos, Denbigh, Henllan, Llanddulas, Llanfair Talhaiarn, Llanefydd, Llansannan, and St George, in Denbighshire, and Bodfari, Cwm, Dyserth, Tremeirchion, Meliden with Prestatyn, Rhuddlan and Rhyl, and St Asaph, in Flintshire. The Union built a workhouse at St Asaph.

Arranged into the following: Clerk to the Guardians; Treasurer; Workhouse Master; Relieving Officer; Collector of the Guardians; and non-Poor Law duties.

The records have been preserved in their entirety, with the exception of a few ephemeral classes, and rate books later than 1914. These have been 'weeded' to leave only those for the years 1916, 1921 and 1926.
