Janet Shelley studied Woven Textile Design at the Royal College of Art ion London. Whilst studying there, she won a Leverhulme Research Scholarship which enabled her to visit textile centres throughout South Eastern Europe.
She has worked freelance for a number of major UK textile companies and exhibited in London, Paris and Madrid. She was Head of Constructed Textiles at the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, University of Dundee for many years (sometime in the 1980s until sometime in the 2000s).
Now, she is a textile artist in Fife, weaving fashion and interior accessories as well as running weaving courses and workshops.
