Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
Oystermouth Urban District Council (UDC), Glamorgan, was established in 1894 from the southern half of the parish of Oystermouth, including the villages of Newton, Norton and Mumbles. The remaining part of the old parish was renamed Brynau parish and became part of the Gower rural district. The Council comprised councillors and a chairman and replaced the Local Board of Health. The Council was responsible for a range of local services and was administered by a number of committees and by appointed officers including a Clerk, Treasurer and Rating Officer. Oystermouth UDC was abolished in 1918 when the urban district and Brynau parish were merged with Swansea County Borough.
