Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
From 1858 the state took over responsibility for proving wills, a role previously taken by the Church. The Principal Registry is located in London, with district offices in the rest of the country. The probate district of Carmarthen covered Cardiganshire, Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire and the Gower area of Glamorgan. The records give details of the deceased's name, date of death, executors and amount of personal estate.
