Mrs Martin [née Marr] was born in Soissons, France, in 1927. Her father, Thomas R Marr, had been first a student of Patrick Geddes at University College Dundee, and subsequently a lecturer in the Department of Botany there. He worked with Geddes in Edinburgh and Paris and was invited by him to join the staff of the Collége des 201cossais at Montpellier in late 1929. The family were close friends of the Geddeses and Mrs Martin can remember Patrick Geddes from her early childhood. He died when she was five years old.
