The collection consists almost entirely of account books and rentals for the Newcastle estates in Nottinghamshire, including Clumber, Nottingham and Newark. The main series is one of audited fair copies of the annual accounts, produced by individual agents, and bound in red morocco leather. After the death of the 5th Duke in 1864 the majority of the Clumber estates were managed by Trustees, although a separate series gives accounts for the unsettled estates, acquired after the 1856 settlement. Other specific series include Woods Settlement Account Book, and both Cash Books and Domestic Accounts for Clumber.
One stray book dates from 1740-41 and consists of 'Mr Clay's Accounts for the Nottinghamshire Estates'. In addition, there are three surveys of the Nottinghamshire estates in the deposit, dated 1786, 1793 and 1809.
Also present are four account books for Hafod and the Newcastle estates in Wales.
