Administrative / Biographical History

When Catherine Sherwin Gregory died in 1892; the named heir for Harlaxton Manor was godson, Thomas Sherwin Pearson, who became Thomas Pearson Gregory (1851-1935). He was no relation of either the Sherwins or the Gregorys, but the youngest son of a friend, General Pearson.

Pearson Gregory was a widower, his wife having died in 1888 giving birth to their only son, Philip. Best known to locals as 'the man with the gun'; the quintessential English sporting gentleman, Pearson Gregory was also a well known cricketer, sportsman, and civic leader, supporting the Grantham Hospital. He was Squire of Harlaxton Manor for 43 years.
