Administrative / Biographical History

With the expansion of trade and industry in Dundee from the early 19th Century, Commissioners for the harbour were implementing Thomas Telford's plans, during this period, following the 1815 Harbour Act, to provide for both larger sailing ships, cargoes and local ferries. By the end of the 19th Century, the Harbour Trustees ran the busy port; these later became Dundee Port Authority.
