Michael Clapham was the treasurer of the Barnsley West and Penistone Constituency Labour Party after 1983. He was elected as MP for Barnsley West and Penistone at the (10 April) 1992 General Election following the retirement of Allen McKay and he held this seat until he stood down at the 2010 General Election.
