Administrative / Biographical History

Mynydd-bach chapel, Llangyfelach, is the oldest Independent chapel in the Swansea area. It began when a piece of land was leased in 1761 at Tirdoncyn-newydd near Llangyfelach and a chapel built there shortly afterwards. In 1867 a new chapel was built and was extensively renovated in about 1930. A large number of other chapels began life as offshoots from Mynydd-bach, including Ebenezer, Gorseinon; Siloh, Landore; and Ebenezer and Henrietta Street chapels, Swansea. Many of these newer chapels did not have burial grounds and their burials tended to take place at the extensive cemetery at Mynydd-bach. The Rev. James Davies (1875-1948) was a minister at Mynydd-bach.
