This collection contains material for the Defence such as proofs of witnesses and correspondence with Michael Rubinstein, Penguin's solicitor, and the Defending Counsel. It also contains material concerning Michael Rubinstein's plan to publish a book of essays by trial witnesses, the copyright of the novel in Australia, and book reviews of The Lady Chatterley's Lover Trial, edited by H. Montgomery Hyde, 1990.

The trial (Regina vs. Penguin Books Ltd.) took place from 20th October to 2nd November, 1960, and concerned prosecution over publication of the unexpurgated version of D.H. Lawrence's Lady Chatterley's Lover.
