Scope and Content

The Johnstone sisters designed a large number of greetings cards for various publishers, including Royle Publications Ltd. of London and Valentines of Dundee. In their lifetimes they produced just over 200 of these, including about 80 colour postcards. None are dated, but they appear over a 30 year period, roughly 1968-1998. This series consists of examples of 130 of these greetings cards, as well as examples of 16 greetings cards designed by Doris and Anna Zinkeisen.

Each card in the series is described individually at item level, with details of the artist/artists and the card publisher, including the publisher's reference number (where known). Unless otherwise stated, all cards are in colour. The numbers given in square brackets alongside the title are the card numbers from the Reids' own numbering sequence, and refer to the Checklist of Greetings Cards which appears in the Reids' unpublished book (see JAJ/09).
