Administrative / Biographical History

Jute Industries Ltd was formed as a result of the amalgamation of many of the Dundee jute companies including Cox Brothers (Camperdown Works), Gilroy and Sons (Tay Works) and J and A D Grimond (Bowbridge Works), and was registered as a limited company in England in 1920.
It changed its name to Sidlaw Industries Ltd in 1971 and to Sidlaw Group plc in 1981. Over the years the company moved away from jute into other interests. As of 2020 the company is still registered as active and is based in Bristol.

Arrangement

Usually chronological within series. The firm's records were surveyed by the National Register of Archives (Scotland) in 1968, (survey no. 0379) and the arrangement and references adopted at that time have been maintained. Additional records and in some instances more detailed information, have been incorporated into this scheme.

Open for consultation subject to preservation requirements. Access must also conform to the restrictions of the Data Protection Act (2018), General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR, 2018) and any other relevant legislation or restrictions. Clinical information is closed for 100 years.

Acquisition Information

The records were deposited by the firm in 1980, 1993,1994 (AccM/112, AccM/131, AccM/295, AccM/310), 2007 and 2008.
