The first parochial school at St Aldates was built in 1836 at the bottom of St Aldates Street. However, as early as 1847 the building was hopelessly overcrowded. At last, new premises were found in the street and in 1866 a new school was opened, being divided into three parts, for boys, girls and infants.
In 1895 the infant's school was closed down and its pupils move to the new school at St Matthews, Grandpont. In 1910 the school was reorganised again when the girls were transferred to Holy Trinty School (please see S193/2 for records of this school) and only the boys were left. The boy's school was eventually closed in 1928.
