Eyre B Powell to Lord Elphinstone.

2 June 1860, [London]. Eyre B. Powell to Lord Elphinstone. On behalf of his son, solicits attention of Lord Elphinstone to an enclosed book. Includes reference to the founding of the University of Madras where by "you have thus placed a healthy species of Literature within the reach of the whole nations community", and taking up his duties as Comptroller General of the Inland Revenue in Dublin. Biographical note on the assumed writer, Professor Baden Powell (1796-1860), Savilian Professor of Geometry, Oxford; [in modern hand] - however this attribution is likely wrong - the writer is almost certainly Eyre Burton Powell.
