Scope and Content

These watercolours of tollgates in the Flint, Holywell and Mostyn area, c.1880, are by Frances Gray (of Chester?). They were given to the Record Office by Mrs. Eyton in memory of her husband, a former Chairman of the County Council.The paintings were bought at a sale from H.A. Cope, a Holywell solicitor. Postcard reproductions of them were printed at the turn of the century (see, for example D/DM/574/2).
