Administrative / Biographical History
The Cilybebyll estate was made up for the most part of lands in the southern and central parts of the parish of Cilybebyll and neighbouring parts of Blaenhonddan to the east of Alltwen, and farms near Pontardawe in the parishes of Llangiwg and Llangyfelach, Glamorgan. The Herbert family owned the estate until the early 18th century when the Lloyd family inherited Cilybebyll. Herbert Lloyd (1838-1914) married Frances Harriette (1838-1929), daughter of S. G. Purdon of Tinerara, Ireland, in 1864. Their eldest son John Herbert Purdon Lloyd (1868-1957) inherited Cilybebyll on his father's death and married Eleanor Parker of Bally Valley, Killaloe, County Clare, Ireland in 1914. Nina Augusta Lloyd, daughter of Herbert Lloyd, married Betram Roper Stote Pemberton (d.1943) of Harleston, Norfolk.
