During the summer of 1918 he gathered important documents from the German headquarters at Framerville, northern France. This action was credited with securing a swifter end to the conflict than would otherwise have been the case. Having joined the Glamorgan Constabulary in 1913, he was a policeman in Neath after the War and died in 1966, aged 73. He was presented with the freedom of the borough of Neath on 20 January 1932.
