Papers relating to the work of Robert Stanes and details and accounts of the Stanes family. Robert Stanes was a British businessman and philanthropist who established a coffee curing works in Coimbatore to obviate the need to send crops to the west coast. This was a successful venture and the majority of his profits were given to charity. He promoted agricultural and industrial expansion in India and founded a number of schools in Coimbatore. He assisted Handley Bird in his work and continued with this after the missionary's departure from Coimbatore.
