Husband Julius an orientalist, Her receptions in Paris famous for over 40 years and attended by many celebrities. Friend of Mdme Recamier, Chateaubriand, De Tocqueville. Mrs Gaskell stayed with her and wrote much of 'Wives and Daughters' at her home. No date [early 1860s].
