Scope and Content

DIARY: Boadicea Amelia Bulkeley (5 Jul 1879 - 29 Apr 1965).

Synopsis: The "Runic" left Sydney on 16th March 1907, and arrived in London on 12th May, stopping at Melbourne, Hobart, Albany, Durban, Capetown, Tenerife and Plymouth. Boadicea Amelia Bulkeley stayed with Mrs Kendall, the wife of Price Howell's friend from 12/5, until 22/5, when she travelled to Buckley. She stayed in Buckley until mid June and then spent a month around Holyhead, returning to Buckley in late July. A trip to Dublin to see the Dublin International Exhibition in early August, returning through Holyhead where she saw William Warlow, the widower of her grandmother's sister. To Llandudno for about a week with day trips to Conway and Betys-y-Coed. Back to Buckley by early August. Trip to Blackpool from 17/8 to 24/8. A trip to Isle of Man for a week starting on 27/8 accompanied by at least Agnes and Neville. Returned to Buckley on 5/9. On Monday 23rd September 1907 she went from Buckley to Barrow, through Chester, Crewe and Preston. In Barrow she stayed with a family who ran a pub, relations of Price's employer Beveridge.

The following day she went on a trip to the Lakes District with Mrs Scott and Jenny by train to Windemere and boat to Ambleside, and a coach to Keswick. Back to Barrow on 25/9, leaving on 19/10, and then to Liverpool to stay with Lizzie and Rhoda. Left on 7/11 and moved on to Sowerby Bridge to stay with Mr and Mrs Crossley. On 14/11 she went to Wigan to stay with Mrs and Mrs Jackson, Price Howell's cousins, at their house Oak Villa. On 29/11 she went to Ashton-in-Makerfield with three of the girls from the Beckley family, for the weekend. Two of the girls (Moll and Kate) were at school in Ashton. On 10/12 she went to Bootle to the family of Dick Jones and then to Buckley on 21/12. Christmas and New Year at Buckley and then to Bootle on 22/1/08, returning on 25/1. On 6/2 she went from Buckley to Barrow, and then on to Wigan on 17/3, where she stayed for 9 days, during which time we went to Widnes to say farewell to Auntie Kate and Ashton to "see the girls". On 26/3 she returned to Buckley, leaving for Valley on 9/4, and on to Holyhead on 11/4. On 16/4 we went for the Easter holiday to Llanddulas with the Jacksons from Wigan and other friends. Back to Buckley on 25/4 where she stayed at the Poplars. Left for the last time on 7/5, and went to London and stayed with Mrs Kendall, near Lewisham. On 23/5 went to Paris with Jennie and stayed for 5 days. Then returned to London where she probably stayed with the Kendalls. Left Gravesend on 12/6, on the SS "Omrah". Stopped at Gibraltar 17/6, Marseilles 19/6, Naples 21/6, Straits of Messina 22/6, Port Said 25/6, Colombo 6/7, Fremantle 16/7, Adelaide 19/7, Melbourne 22/7 and Sydney 24/7. On the manifesto she is noted as Miss A. Bulkeley.
