Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
Civil parish councils were established by the Local Government Act 1894, taking over responsibilities from parish vestry meetings. The records can include minute books, financial statements, correspondence, copies of planning applications, and rate lists. Community councils replaced parish councils under the local government reorganization in 1974. Dylais Higher Parish Council, until 1974 in the county of Glamorgan, was replaced by Dylais Higher Community Council, in West Glamorgan. In 1983 Seven Sisters Community Council was formed as the residuary successor of Dylais Higher Community Council. Following further reorganization in 1996, the community council is located in Neath Port Talbot.
