Administrative / Biographical History

Melville Jameson, born at Cupar, Fife, came from a family of lawyers who practised throughout the east of Scotland. After gaining his degree at Edinburgh University, Jameson first established a practice with his brother-in-law, then subsequently joined the firm of Duncan & McLean in which he became a partner. This partnership was dissolved after which Jameson worked alone until his eldest son, Melville Jameson and DM Mackay joined him to establish the firm of Jameson and Mackay which still exists today. Jameson acted as Procurator-Fiscal for the County of Perth until 1896, was the agent for the Perth Branch of the National Bank of Scotland and held the office of President of the Incorporated Society of Solicitors in Perth.
