Scope and Content

Correspondence files spanning Ursula Moray Williams' active career as a children's author, including correspondence from family and friends, fans, schoolchildren, publishing houses, professional organisations, literary agents, other children's authors, illustrators, and others active in the field of children's literature. In the main, the subject matter relates to Williams' books, but there is also some correspondence relating to public engagements, and some written on a more personal note exchanging information about family, holidays, visitors, health, and other matters. Very often the letters are a mixture of business matters and more personal matters. Unfortunately, only the incoming letters survive and there are no copies of Williams' outgoing letters, although she appears to have been a very active and dedicated correspondent.

The correspondence has been divided into four series - Personal Correspondence, Professional Correspondence, Literary Correspondence and Curtis Brown (Literary Agents) Correspondence. Further details on the contents and arrangement of each grouping are given at series level.
