Scope and Content

This series contains material relating to Platt's work with the Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCS) and the International Federation of Surgical Colleges (IFSC). The two bodies were closely connected, with the Royal College of Surgeons playing an important role in the foundation of the IFSC. Platt was President of the RCS from 1954 to 1957, an important period of change, and immediately afterwards became the first President of the IFSC, a position he held from 1958 to 1966. In both bodies, Platt was particularly involved in work related to the education and training of surgeons. This series gives a good representation of Platt's significant role in both bodies, and provides interesting information on the development of surgical education.

Arrangement

This series has been arranged into two sub-series, one for the Royal College of Surgeons and one for the International Federation of Surgical Colleges.
