A large volume on the leaves of which are fastened 40 documents of various kinds and origin but mainly relating to French ecclesiastical institutions. They include two papal documents (PHC/30-31). There is also a single document relating to Pisa in Italy (PHC/67). At the beginning, on one page, are fastened five coloured etchings by a certain Rabelli with the dates 1792 and 1793. On two others are eleven pen-drawings. All these etchings and drawings represents monks and nuns of various orders.
The documents are arranged in approximate chronological order, although the first items are 17th-century transcripts. They were originally numbered sequentially, 1-40, and these former references are shown in round brackets below. When the Phillipps Charters were acquired by the John Rylands Library, each document was given a separate charter number, PHC/28-67.
The sequence continues in a second volume, of the same size and format, containing a further 61 documents (PHC/68-125 below).
