Scope and Content

The history of the descent of the manor of Tolethorpe near Ryhall in Rutland, from the time of William Rufus to 1441, with a transcript of 85 charters and deeds relating to the Burtons of Tolethorpe.

The history of the manor has been printed and the charters and deeds have been calendared by Thomas Blore in The history and antiquities of the county of Rutland (Stanford, 1811), pp. 209-217.

Acquisition Information

Rylands accession no. R26229. Purchased by the John Rylands Library at the Phillipps sale on 24 April 1911, through the London bookseller Bernard Quaritch, for £17 plus 10 per cent commission.

In Blore's time this roll was in the possession of the Countess of Pomfret.
