Pauline Agius Archive

Archive of Pauline Agius, furniture historian and author of 'British Furniture, 1880-1915'. This discrete archive of papers compiled by Pauline Agius includes typescript and manuscript notes and research into a range of furniture history subjects from Victorian furniture and design to overseas trade and Egyptian influence. It contains annotated extracts, cuttings from magazines and auction catalogues, photographs and correspondence. It also holds a file of publications and lectures delivered by Agius. Included throughout the files are publications, notes and correspondence of Edward T. Joy, furniture historian, whose own archive is also part of the Bedford Collection.

The archive has been catalogued and repackaged according to its original order, as organised in folders by Pauline Agius. Each file level record represents an original folder. The original title of the folders as ascribed by Agius have been retained as the file record titles unless the title does not accurately represent the holdings of the folder. In this case this has been recorded in the System of Arrangement field on the file level record with a note of the original folder title. As with other parts of the archive, the original colour of each folder is annotated on the new folders; as the files were originally blue, there is a 'B' on the front of the new files.

Access to this part of the collection is restricted under the Data Protection Act. You will need to complete a restricted access form and return it to Special Collections for review by staff before access can be granted.
