Two notebooks containing notes and drawings comprising Darbyshire's heraldic research for the production of Shakespeare's plays by Charles Calvert at the Prince's Theatre, Manchester, comprising:
- /1: Hardbound volume containing cuttings, drawings, paintings and engravings of portraits and imagery (including armour, flags and banners, crests etc.), and extensive notes relating to personages in Shakespeare's Henry V, for Calvert's production in September 1872. With cuttings of contemporary reviews of the production, which emphasise its visual richness and historical research. The volume also contains sketches by Darbyshire from memorials at Westminster Abbey, January 1874.
- /2: Notebook entitled by Darbyshire: 'Notes for properties. Heraldry. Revival of Richard III from the text'. It contains coloured sketches of armorial devices with brief notes. This item is not dated, but the Calvert production of Richard II opened in January 1870.
