Scope and Content

Volume containing cuttings, engravings, plates, drawings and paintings of miscellaneous imagery, including national and personal flags, arms, seals, signs and badges, probably collected by Darbyshire from the 1860s to the 1890s. Many engravings and plates predate this. The volume also contains sketches of the windows in the drawing room of Lyme Hall, a family tree for the Legh of Lyme family and other material relating to the family. There are many cuttings from the 1860s up to the 1890s, a number of which relate to the death of the Prince Consort. At the end of the volume are some sketches and copies of designs by Darbyshire for coats of arms (including arms for Lady Georgina Vernon) and for publicity material (including for Manchester Conservative Club), along with letters from Albert W. Wood of the College of Arms, and a draft design for Darbyshire's Booke of Olde Manchester and Salford of 1887.
