John Gregson Harrison

A single volume of lecture notes from when Harrison was a student, although he makes clear that he did not attend the lectures himself but has instead copied the notes from a much earlier set of lectures. It is unclear whether Harrison ever attended lectures by Astley Cooper.

John Gregson Harrison (ca. 1806-1862) qualified LSA in 1828 and became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1829 and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1845. Later descriptions of him in contemporary published sources also describe him as having an M.D. Harrison ran his private practice from 4 Piccadilly, Manchester and early on in his career was resident surgeon to the Manchester Union Hospital. He also served as medical inspector of factories and as honorary medical officer to the Northern and North Eastern Division of the London and North-Western Railway Company, for which he was presented with a service plate in 1854 for his valuable services. He was a member of the Provincial Medical and Surgical Association and surgeon to the 6th Regiment of the Royal Lancashire Militia, a position he held up to his death.

He married Martha Holt on 24 April 1834, and the pair are known to have had at least one child together. Harrison died in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire on 1 December 1862 at the age of 56.
