Edinburgh is famous for its festivals. The Edinburgh International Festival of theatre, music, and dance has been held each year in August and September since 1947. The first annual Edinburgh Festival Fringe was held a year later, and has since become well-known for its wide range of performers including student productions and stand-up comedians.
The Eisteddfoddau are Welsh language festivals where poets, musicians, and artists meet and compete, with the musical competition dating back to at least the 7th century. The largest of these annual festivals is the National Eisteddfod of Wales, which is held in the north and south of Wales in alternative years during the first week of August.
The Archives Hub also includes descriptions for the records of other festivals, both for annual competitions and for unique events such as the 1962 Festival of Labour.
