Administrative / Biographical History

During the Second World War, individuals who were not called up for military service often volunteered for Civil Defence duties. In 1942 the National Service Act made it possible for compulsory enrolment to be applied in areas where voluntary enrolment was insufficient and units were below strength. Enid Dora Hayman was enrolled for fire prevention duties in the City of Cardiff under the provisions of this Act.
