Administrative / Biographical History

This relief expedition was sent to the Davis Strait to rescue whalers who had been stranded there during the 1835 season. The venture was supported by both the British Admiralty and by private subscription. Ross captained HMS Cove with Francis Crozier and Erasmus Ommanney serving as lieutenants.
