Administrative / Biographical History
An Expert Advisory Group was established in 2009 in response to proposed changes to the national health system, which the College perceived as an opportunity to review women's health services. Established under the lay chairmanship of Dame Joan Higgins, the intention of the review was to produce a vision of patient-centred high quality women's health care focusing on a holistic life-course approach.The aims of the Expert Advisory Group were to determine the sources of information and evidence to be considered; to consider reports and studies already undertaken in this area by other organisations; to support the Chair in taking written and oral evidence from stakeholders; to discuss the analysis of evidence and advise the College on conclusions to be made; to monitor the progress of the review against agreed objectives; and to provide input to the final review report. Membership of the group included representatives from the Royal Colleges of Midwives, Anaesthetists, General Practitioners, and Paediatrics, from the Consumers Forum and National Clinical Advisory Team, and from the British Maternal and Fetal Medicine Society.
