Administrative / Biographical History

Dr John Menzies Campbell FDS RCSEd and RCPSGlasg (1887–1974) was a Scottish dentist and dental historian. He was born in Paisley, attended George Watson's School in Edinburgh, and studied dentistry at Anderson College, St. Mungo’s College and the Glasgow Dental School. He spent over 40 years of his dental career operating from his practice at 14 Buckingham Terrace in Glasgow, with his wife, Margaret Williamson Menzies Campbell (nee Shirlaw). He was an avid collector of dental instruments, artwork, books and manuscripts. The bulk of his collection of instruments and artwork was donated to the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1964, with the books and manuscripts being donated to the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
